Our History
Our refinery first planted its roots in August 1906 when it was built by The National Refining Company - the second largest oil company in the country at the time. Built on 75 acres, the refinery processed 2,500 barrels per day of crude oil - a humble beginning compared to today's 115,000 barrel per day processing capacity. Now Coffeyville Resources Refining & Marketing, LLC, this state-of-the-art facility is a catalytic cracking/delayed coking refinery that processes moderately heavy, medium sulfur crude oil from a broad array of domestic and international sources and predominantly produces clean transportation products such as gasoline, diesel fuels, and propane. In 1998, construction began on a state-of-the-art nitrogen fertilizer facility, Coffeyville Resources Nitrogen Fertilizers, LLC, located adjacent to our refinery. The plant, which is only nitrogen fertilizer plant in North America that uses petroleum coke as opposed to natural gas as a feedstock, first began production in late 2000. In 2007, CVR Energy formed CVR Partners, LP to own and operate the nitrogen fertilizer business. A subsidiary of CVR Energy serves as the general partner of CVR Partners and owns the majority of the common units representing limited partner interests of CVR Partners.
